The City of Colour
Optical Mixing
Before and After
Artist name: Qudsia Hussain
Dimensions: 5x7 "
Media: acrylic paint
Title: The City of Colour
Artist Statement :This painting is first impressionist. It is a glimpse of downtown Toronto. To achieve the impressionist look i used daps of paint to add dept and texture , also i overlapped colours for the gradinate look. Impressionism deals optical mixing, it is when you place 2 complementary or primary colours side by side-this can be in forms of dots or even daps of paint. As you move away from your canvas the 2 colours would mix in your head. For example: when you put yellow and blue beside eachother, as ypu move away the 2 colours would mix and turn into green
I am choosing this piece because it challenged me as an artist-i have never done Impressionism before. The techniques , form of style and concept was new to me. I had to adapt to a new style of panting and the transition was difficult. Due to those difficulties , my experience as an artist has improved, I am ready to take on bigger challenges
